TOXINS IN OUR MIDST

Three of the most common toxins that we consume on a regular basis are monosodium glutamate, (MSG) sodium nitrate and sulphuric dioxide. (Sulphates) If you see any of these items listed on the label, you are eating poison.

MSG is one of the most widely used food additives in commercial foods. Its application has increased over time and it is found in many different ingredients and processed foods obtainable in every market or grocery store. Besides its flavour enhancing effects, MSG has been associated with obesity, metabolic disorders, Chinese Restaurant Syndrome, neurotoxic effects and detrimental effects on the reproductive organs.

Sodium nitrate is a common preservative used in cured meat products including bacon, deli meat, and jerky. It has been linked to the development of heart disease and diabetes.

Sulphur dioxide is severely irritating to the eyes, mucous membranes, skin, and respiratory tract. Bronchospasm, pulmonary edema, pneumonitis and acute airway obstruction can occur. Inhalation exposure to very low concentrations of sulphur dioxide can aggravate chronic pulmonary diseases, such as asthma and emphysema, especially with children.

I bought a tomato clam cocktail juice the other day, and to my dismay when I brought it home, it had sulphides listed on the label. You see the commercial with the guy wearing a preppy sweater, exuding a clean-cut image in charge of one of the major food chains. Well, many of his products are toxifying his customers. If you ever buy dried fruit, it is loaded with sulphur dioxide. The two main problems are that the distributor puts sulphides in their products before shipping them overseas to shelves in the supermarkets. Secondly, the seller doesn’t give a rat’s ass what’s in most of their products as long as they sell. Some of these products, like bacon and jerky leave out these toxins, as an alternative for the consumer or gluten free food, which is another story. If you go to a health food store, chances are you can buy dried fruits without sulphides. It just boils down to the integrity of those who make vast profits, and the government should step in to regulate food products more stringently to give the populace a better quality eating lifestyle and reduce the health care costs overall.

Company News – Dec 22, 2017 by Noah Zivitz, managing editor of BNN:

“We will hold you responsible.” The CEO of Sobeys is slamming rival Galen G. Weston as an industry feud over bread price-fixing claims boils over at the highest level.

Michael Medline, who leads Sobeys and its parent company, is calling on the chairman and CEO of Loblaw and George Weston to retract recent statements that he says dragged Sobeys into the scandal.

“[We] were shocked and outraged by the reckless nature of your assertions … surrounding your admission of wrongdoing (for fourteen years) concerning commercial bread pricing,” Medline wrote in a letter to Weston.

“Your written and spoken words of December 19 can only be construed as a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of Sobeys and, perhaps, other retailers. We formally ask you to publicly and immediately retract your assertion that Sobeys conducted itself in the same manner as Loblaw and Weston and your allegations that, at this time, there is proof of participation by Sobeys in a price-fixing arrangement.”

Weston and his family are an estimated net worth of 8.7 billion dollars, Canada’s third wealthiest. Now Galen is offering a price freeze on no name products until January of 2023. How generous! I recommend you read the article in the Globe and Mail from October 19/22 by Robyn Urback. It’s a delicious satire of Weston.

The other things that are advertised by the same food chain owner are desserts and drinks loaded with sugars. Read the book, “Sugar Blues” by William Duffy. Childhood diabetes alone lowers a human’s lifespan by eighteen years. It is one of the more insidious additives in our foods.

When we live in a global corporate world, you wonder who dictates policy; the corporations or the government. We made the mistake as Canadians to farm out much of our manufacturing to China in particular with cheaper labour, and now we are in deep. China is a totalitarian dictatorship with a leader who rules for life and controls the masses, like Kim Jong-on, who threatens the civilized world with nuclear annihilation; the same guy who had his step brother murdered in an airport.

Trading with China is the paradox of world economy. We are literally owned by them economically; especially in the US. Yet the Chinese are one of the biggest perpetrators of human rights violations. It’s like dealing with the United Emirate. We need their oil. We are addicted to oil.

Toxins in our midst are not only the foods we eat, but the countries we trade with. We have ostracized Russia, North Korea and Iran. In Iran we see the brutality of the Khomeini regime, and the rising resistance and courage of the Iranian populace; especially the women who have been suppressed and murdered for a long time under a fanatical religious leadership. – The same in Afghanistan under the Taliban, and prior to them, Isis and Al Qaeda. – The United Emirate and ad infinitum. Women are told what to wear and how to act to serve men who rule.

The same applies to the religious fanaticism of abortion laws in the US. – Men who make the rules for women. Thank God we live in a more liberal democracy like Canada. Liberal is not a bad word; it means to be open-minded; not repressive and controlling.

Don’t get me wrong; I love most American people who are fair-minded and kind. But this Trumpism politics has become an insidious cancer to the democratic institution, and has polarized and weaponized American politics. There are those who would like to go back to the Civil War era. Why did they call that war Civil? There’s nothing civilized about war. Couldn’t you picture Ted Cruz in a Confederate uniform?

Whether toxins in our midst are food, greedy corporations, or corrupt politicians that only serve the few, it’s all the same to me.
